Fate of Genetically Modified Protein A research study was conducted to determine the fate of
genetically modified protein from Roundup Ready™ soybeans in tissue
and eggs of laying hens. Raw soybeans, soybean meal, complete diet,
whole egg, egg albumen, liver tissue and feces from laying hens fed
diets containing the genetically modified protein were analyzed. Results
indicated that the Roundup Ready soybeans, soybean meal and complete
diets were determined to contain the genetically modified proteins.
Whole egg, egg albumen, liver tissue and feces were all negative for
the genetically modified protein. The researchers concluded that the
laying hen’s digestive process effectively digested the genetically
modified protein from the soybean meal portion of the diet, thus no
modified protein was found in egg, tissue or feces. |
