Nutrient
Variability in Distillers Dried Grains
University of Georgia researchers obtained twelve distillers dried grain
samples from six processing plants in the Midwest. The samples were
assayed for true metabolizable energy and available amino acids using
rooster assay techniques. Results indicated marked variation between
samples attributed to differences in processing procedures. They found
the between- process plant variation was much greater than samples from
the same plant. The researchers suggested that the nutritionist should
analyze samples from new suppliers prior to using the distiller product
in feed formulations..
