Phytase improved phosphorus utilization in a corn-soybean meal diet for laying hens. Diets containing 0.15% available phosphorus (159 mg P/d) or containing 0.10% available phosphorus plus 300 units of phytase per kg (108 mg P/d) supported optimal egg production from 20 to 70 weeks of age. Excreted phosphorus was reduced by about 50% in the birds consuming 0.10% available phosphorus plus phytase compared to birds fed diets containing 0.45% available phosphorus.
