New Soybean Hull Feed Ingredient

Researchers at Kansas State University have developed a new feed ingredient composed of soybean hulls and corn steep liquor. They found that pellet durability and electrical energy process efficiencies were optimized when the corn steep liquor was applied at the pellet mill conditioner to produce pellets containing 75 percent raw soybean hulls and 25 percent condensed corn steep liquor. Increasing the condensed corn steep liquor to 25 percent caused higher pellet moisture levels and reduced urease activities. (Note-This feed ingredient should provide the beef and dairy nutritionists another ingredient to include in formulating rations).
