Whole Soybean
in Feedlot Operations
A 72-day study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding whole soybeans to feedlot steer performance. Whole soybeans were used to replace 0, 33 percent, 67 percent and 100 percent of the soybean meal and 0, 3.6 percent, 7.2 percent and 10.8 percent of the corn in a feedlot ration. All diets were isonitrogenous and contained equal amounts of corn silage, minerals, vitamins, and additives. No treatment differences in total gain or carcass quality were observed. These results suggest that whole soybean may replace soybean meal in diets of feedlot steers without detrimental effects on animal performance or carcass characteristics. Felton, E.E.D. and M.S.
