Enzyme Treatment of Soybean Meal for Poultry Alpha-galactosidase treatment of soybean meal degraded raffinose and stachyose by 69 and 54%, respectively. Raffinose and stachyose could not be detected in the excreta of chicks fed the enzyme-treated soybean. The enzyme treatment increased the metabolizable energy level of meal from 2974 to 3328 kcal/kg (P<0.05). Three chick studies were conducted to determine the value of enzyme-treated soybean meal. Results indicated chick performance was not significantly (P<0.05) improved by enzyme treatment. Graham, K.K. and co-workers. 2002.
