The true amino acid digestibility (TAAD) and true metabolizable energy
(TME) value in corn and soybean meal for White Pekin ducks was reported.
Results of a digestibility study indicated that the nitrogen-correction
metabolizable energy (TMEn) in corn and 44% protein soybean meal were
3.411 and 2.919 kcal/g, respectively. The TAAD values were 87.03 and
88.15% for corn and the soybean meal ingredients. The design of the
study allowed the researchers to determine whether the values for corn
and soybean meal were additive; they found that the TME and TMEn for
corn and soybean meal were additive, whereas, the differences in TAAD
between the observed and predicted values were significant (P<0.05)
for arginine, lysine and aspartate. (These results indicate that
some amino acid digestibilities of these three amino acids are not additive
and demonstrative associated effects. The study also provides amino
acid digestibility and metabolizable energy values for soybean meal
in another species).
