Differences in Amino Acid Digestibilities
Australian researchers determined the apparent ileal digestibility of
several feed ingredients using broilers, layers and roosters. Each diet
was formulated with the test ingredient supplying the sole source of
protein. The mash diets were fed ad libitum to five replicated pens
of broilers and layers and four replicated pens of roosters. The digestibility
of amino acids in soybean meal was higher (P<0.05) for layers compared
values for broilers and roosters; values for broilers and roosters were
similar. The researchers indicated that the results suggest that the
class of poultry significantly influenced the apparent digestibility
of amino acids.
