Performance of Genetic Modified Soybean Meal Researchers in the Netherlands obtained soybean meal from
insect-protected transgenic soybeans that contained the Cry1Ac protein.
Broiler chicks were fed a diet containing 35 percent soybean meal from
the transgenic soybean, a similar nontransgenic soybean, or seven commercial
soybean varieties. The experiment consisted of 10 replicate pens of
9 birds per treatment. The overall body weight and feed conversion for
the 41-day experiment was 2,435g and 1.52, respectively. The treatment
differences for body weight gain, feed conversion, carcass yields and
breast meat data was not different (P<0.05). The researchers concluded
that meal produced from insect-protected transgenic soybeans was nutritionally
equivalent to nongenetically modified soybean varieties when fed to
broilers. |
