Improving Phosphorus Utilization

In another study, six ileally-cannulated pigs weighing 34.8kg were fed phosphorus adequate diets (2.3g/kg) with or without a microbial phytase supplement (1,000 FTU/kg) in a 6x6 Latin square design experiment. The results indicated that the phytase addition increased the apparent ileal phosphorus digestion by 16.5-19.2% (P<0.05) and had no effect on ileal digestion of total nitrogen or amino acids.
