Phosphorus Utilization-Chicks

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of feeding several organic acids on phytate phosphorus utilization in a phosphorus-deficient corn-soybean meal diet. Results indicated that 1.5 and 3% sodium gluconate, 1.5% calcium gluconate, 1.5 and 3% glucono-?-lactone, 3% citric acid, and 1% 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid increase chick weigh and tibia ash. Three percent fumaric acid or 0.025-0.1% EDTA were not effective in improving phytate phosphorus utilization in chicks fed a phosphorus-deficient corn-soybean meal diet.
