Soybean Analyses In a technical newsletter, Degussa reported that they have developed
Near-Infrared-Spectroscopy (NIRS) calibrations for determining dry matter,
crude protein, and amino acids of major feed ingredients. Based on very
accurate wet chemistry analysis and a broad range of raw materials from
worldwide locations, these NIRS calibrations are reliable and robust.
As part of their efforts to continually update and expand the calibrations,
they conducted a 4th AminoNIR? Ring Test with 44 NIRS instruments distributed
with customers around the world. The results of the test indicated that
the calibration is very accurate and produces highly reproducible predictions.
The 4th ring test demonstrated the coefficient of variation for dry
matter; crude protein and amino acid analyses are being reduced with
each ring test. Coefficients of variation for soybean meal were reported
to be below two percent and a little higher (2-5%) for full fat soybean
products. They reported the coefficient of variation values for amino
acids using the NIRS units were lower than amino acid analyses done
by wet chemistry. (What does this mean to soybean growers and users
of soybean meal? Rapid analyses of soybean meal shipments will enable
nutritionists to better characterize soybean meal lots and formulate
diets with more accuracy to meet the nutritional specifications of the
diet being formulated. NIRS calibrations being developed by several
organizations will allow for more accurate assessment of the nutritional
value of individual soybean meal lots based on their composition). |
