Effects of dietary lysophospholipid complex supplementation on lactation performance, and nutrient digestibility in lactating sows


This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary lysophospholipid complex (LPL; Lipidol; EasyBio, Inc., Korea) on lactation performance, production of immunoglobulins, and nutrients digestibility in lactating sows. Forty sows (Large White × Landrace, 222 ± 13 kg BW, and 2.5 ± 0.6 parity) were allotted to 5 dietary treatments with 8 sows per treatment based on backfat thickness, and body weight. From d 107 of gestation to d 21 of lactation, sows were fed corn-soybean meal-based diets containing 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 mg/kg LPL, respectively. As the concentration of LPL increased, bodyweight loss of sows during lactation was reduced (P <  0.05, linear), whereas ADG of nursing piglets was increased (P <  0.05, linear). Meanwhile, as the concentration of LPL increased, levels of IgA, IgM, and IgG in colostrum and milk were increased (P <  0.05) linearly. The apparent total tract digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, ether extract, gross energy, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber in sows was also increased (P <  0.05, linear) as the concentration of LPL increased. The content of IgA in the serum of sow was increased (P <  0.05) quadratically, and the contents of IgA and IgM in serum of piglets were also increased (P <  0.05) quadratically as the concentration of LPL increased. The content of serum glucose was raised (P <  0.05) linearly, whereas the contents of serum triglyceride and total cholesterol were decreased (P <  0.05) linearly in sows as the concentration of LPL increased.

In conclusion, increasing LPL supplementation improved performance, colostrum and milk immunoglobulins, serum parameters, nutrient digestibility and litter performance in lactating sows.
